To develop a diverse theater audience in the Catskill Mountains through new play development, productions, and arts education.
“Seneca Falls,” a new musical celebrating the centennial of Women’s Suffrage in New York State, with book and lyrics by Karen Howes, and music by Elliot Sokolov, tells the stories of Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Patricia Dell), Susan B. Anthony (Anne Saxon-Hersh), Lucy Stone (Rebecca Maeder Chien), Lucretia Mott (Marge Helenchild), Sojourner Truth (Irene Kellogg), Martha Wright (Anne Barone), Victoria Woodhull (Elizabeth Kemble), and their families during the turbulent years of 1848-1882. Figuring prominently in the stories are newspaperman John Tanner (Ward Stevenson), Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s husband Henry (Jerrold Reinstein), her father Judge Daniel Cady (Roy Moses), and her niece Flora (Madison Tobon), as well as Martha Wright’s son Will (Cedric Taylor), and the dashing Englishman Henry Browne Blackwell (Jonathan Andrews) who crosses the Atlantic to court Ms. Stone. Amie Brockway is director; Dick Tucker is music director.
Traveling by train, boat, stage coach, and horseback, these diverse women make their way to the first Seneca Falls Convention on July 19, 1848, where they set about changing the rules by which they have to live.
Performances of “Seneca Falls” at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville, NY, are July 20-30, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 pm; Sundays at 3. Adults $20; Seniors $15; Youth to Age 26 $10; Children accompanied by an adult are admitted Free of Charge.
