The Ballad Tree - 2025. $0 (FREE) Pay-What-You-Will Ticket.

$0.00

A fairytale portrayal of tragic Appalachian ballads with live music, dance, and puppetry.

Artist organization Gloaming Project presents The Ballad Tree at The Open Eye Theater in Margaretville, NY. Inspired by Appalachian ballads - old English, Scottish, and Irish folk songs carried over to early North America - the ballads are presented through live music, song, dance, and puppetry.

Inspired by the ballads sung to Djahari as a child, The Ballad Tree embraces the oral tradition of ballads while acknowledging their journey of modification with new interpretations. Focusing on the romantic and tragic “Murder Ballads” the event will include both popular and lesser-known ballads as well as original ballad-inspired music and dance.

Director and Choreographer, Djahari Clark, guitarist and Musical Director, David Kammerer, and Costumer Kristin Costa, bring the ballads to the stage with an emphasis on their fairytale nature, transforming their dark themes into scenes of whimsical beauty and trance-like, emotional states.
